My tween daughter is on the verge of needing braces... she has asked me again and again if she can have Invisalign.
I personally think it is a great alternative to metal braces. So I am definitely thinking about it!
As we all know the teen/tween years are rough on self esteem. So why not make it as easy as possible for them...and what do braces have to do with style? A LOT
Your smile is such an important part of your self-esteem. If you have a great smile you are more self-confident. If you are more confident you have better posture and radiate that confidence! If you feel confident you look better, always!!! Another cause for improved self-esteem in people that use orthodontic treatment is that it can bring teeth, lips and face into proportion. One in two teens believe wearing metal braces makes them self conscious about smiling and lowers self esteem.* So here I am selecting a straightening treatment for my daughter at such a critical age where she needs all the self confidence she can get!
Invisalign Teen is a product that works for even some of the most complex cases that previously were only treatable with metal braces. Now there may be no need for her to suffer through the look and discomfort of metal braces!! They are removable so she can still eat caramel and popcorn (yum). More importantly, she can still be sure to brush and floss properly! In addition, they are also comfortable - no metal or wires!
How the process works:
You go to your provider and get approved for the treatment (Invisalign recommends a second opinion if you are told you are NOT a candidate)
They use a series of clear, comfortable, removable liners to gradually straighten your teeth - no metal or wires!!
You wear the liners for about two weeks at a time, and your teeth gradually move.
I love this... Invisalign Teen has "compliance indicators". These indicators will fade from blue to clear, so it is easy to ensure your child is wearing them.
Liners are most effective if worn 20-22 hours a day so you can remove them to eat, brush and floss.
You will visit your doctor about every six weeks and they give you your next sets of liners.
Cost:
Each patients’ needs are different and there are many factors that will affect the cost. Invisalign is often comparable to traditional braces, it is covered by most insurance companies and there are financing options available.
I will keep you posted on our progress and what we decide!

My son had the regular braces first time around but, after a couple of years, then developed tmj and needed realignment. We looked into Invisalign but it was too expensive so our orthodontist recommended a similar, but more affordable, product.
I can't remember the brand but they did the job and my son really appreciated the fact they he could remove the "braces" to eat.
I had regular braces as a teen and just recently had inviaslign to realign them. What they don't tell you is that the inviaslign takes much longer than the regular braces. Invisalign was originally scheduled for 6 months of treatment at then end my teeth were still not straight so I had another 2 months of sets. They were still not straight enough so I had them put regular braces on again. The orthodontist is able to tighten them instead of waiting for the invisalign sets to come in. Had I not been so vain and worried about my appearance, I would have paid less and had the regular braces on for half the time it took.
I think it's so great that you are willing to look into all options for your daughter. :) When I was 17 I had clear braces put on, they still had a metal wire but the braces themselves were clear (porcelain I believe) and then during each check up they would change the ties around each one, you could choose clear or do something fun like pink and blue for every other one-I did that once then the rest of the time chose clear. Most of the people that didn't know me barely noticed. When teeth move it is uncomfortable and painful, had I had removable invisalign, I know I would have been tempted to take them out and it would have been hard to make them work. With braces they're on and you never have to worry about your tween taking them off and essentially wasting your money. I was in college when I got my braces off and I have to say I actually think it builds confidence because you become stronger in who you are vs. specifically what you look like. From what I've heard from friends, invisalign doesn't work as quickly or as well as actual braces.
Thanks for these helpful comments. My daughter wants Invisaline, but we'll check out all the alternative before we decide.
